The Albert Heijn Dino app was part of the first collectables campaign featuring virtual reality. The app contains 20 dinosaurs which can be viewed in both virtual reality and augmented reality. Kids could collect cards and scan them in the app to unlock new dinosaurs. They could then watch them in either augmented or virtual reality. The app holds a lot of educational value due to Dutch biologist and TV host Freek Vonk, who rides along with you in virtual reality.
The app was a big success and has won multiple awards. It has won two Dutch Game Awards for Best Technical Achievement and Best Co-Production. It also won the first Bright VR Awards for best marcom.
